Story of Twin City Mission

Dialup Video (56K) | Broadband Video (300K)

The original focus of Twin City Mission was to meet the needs of homeless individuals and families. Through that service, which began in 1963, other areas of need were recognized and new programs were developed to help meet those needs. After 40 years of providing a home for the homeless, being a friend to the friendless and giving hope to the hopeless, Twin City Mission remains the foundation of support for those in need. Whether it is shelter, meals, clothing, household items or whatever, Twin City Mission operates on the premise of not seeing through each other, but rather, seeing each other through.

Homeless & Housing Services offers emergency, temporary shelter for homeless men, women and families. Our Housing Services Program assists with transitional housing needs, including scattered-site housing, bridging the gap between emergency shelter and self-sufficiency. Case management is provided throughout all of our programs. Our Community Closet provides basic necessities including clothing, furniture, appliances and household items to individuals and families, to assist them in gaining and/or maintaining self-sufficiency. The Community Café provides nutritious meals to anyone in the community, free of charge. Twin City Mission's Donation & Resale Service's four resale stores (stocked by donations from the community) sell clothing, furniture and household appliances at or below garage sale prices. Our Domestic Violence Services include:Phoebe's Home an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and their families. Case management and non-residential counseling services are also available. Our Outreach Services provide professional family violence training and education to area law enforcement personnel, criminal justice staff, medical professionals and the faith community. Education on dating abuse for Junior High, High School and College students is also included. Our Youth & Family Services Program, including the STAR program offers free Services To At Risk youth and their families.
