As Homeless and Housing Services Bridge Program enters the new FY2007-08, the shelter has seen an increase in the men's shelter of an average of 31.6 men sheltered per night (this includes eight (8) residents in the long term shelter). The women's shelter decreased to 5.9 per night. The family shelter in September was 1 adult and 2 children. The Bridge clients worked 720 desk monitor hours and 286 kitchen hours and 598 hours at the Recycle yard during September. In addition, there were 250 "other" hours worked at various Mission programs including Community Closet, dorm cleaners and supply and food pantry maintenance. The Bridge collected $2,515.00 in resident rent payments for September.

The Community Cafe served 2,823 meals to men, 528 meals to women, 270 meals to families and 908 meals to community members for a total of 7,046 meals served in the Community Cafe including meals for TLC clients. The number of clothes given away for the month of September were 2,299 pieces of clothing, shoes, coats and linens and household items. The Community Closet distributed 18 pieces of furniture in September. The Community Closet served 271 children and 179 adults during the month.

Sandra and Twyla attended the annual Texas Homeless Conference in Dallas September 5-7. Many of the workshops and presentations focused on creative and innovative dieas working with the homeless population. The driving forces behind many of the workshops were in the areas of employment, transportation and medical issues. As has happened many times in the past, TCM received much vital and useful information for TCM shelter clients.

The Bridge was honored to host the Blueribbon Steering Committee for the Twin City Mission Capital Campaign on September 12th in the Bridge chapel. The Bridge staff attended the meeting which moved from the chapel to the Community Cafe where the committee ate a dinner of chicken strips, macaroni and cheese and green beans, topped off with an assortment of cake. The committee then toured the shelters and met again in the chapel. I would like to thank the staff and the clients who worked very hard to make the committee visit a pleasant experience.

Also in September I attended the MHMR Shareholder's meeting held at the Brazos Center. MHMR announced they will be receiving some new money and aksed the many service providers in the community to contribute ideas on how best to spend those funds.

Twyla attended the CDBG post award workshop with Doug Weedon.

On September 18th the United Way Youth Leadership Council toured the homeless shelters ably led by our own Ron Crozier. Afterward the UW Youth Cabinet met for lunch and meetings at Aldersgate Methodist Church. The Bridge and Administrative Council's own Donnie Holland attended the lunch and spoke to the youth. According to Mr. Crozier, the teens had many questions and comments.

On September 20th all Homeless and Housing Services staff attended the Education Committee meeting of the Homeless Coalition.
