Supportive Housing Program-Transitions:
Transitions had one new move in for September. Transitions experienced its first successfull completion of the TBRA program and now is liveing with family. Marta, the Transitions client who made such a wonderfull presentation to the Board a few months ago has begun the English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the Barbara Bush Center and is doing well. She still speaks highly of all the support she received from the Board and Administrative Council.
A female Transitions client recently regained custody of her son who is attending Bryan High School and doing well.
In the Supportive Housing Program (SHP) there was a successful completion. This former resident and her four children were Katrina evacuees who were placed in the TCM Housing Program in October of '05. The client had decided to relocate to Baton Rouge, Louisianna to be reunited with her family. One of her sons graduated from Bryan High while on the TCM program and he is enrolled in college this semester. It was such a pleasure to watch this uprooted family rebuild their lives. I had done some home visits with this family and the mother was especially grateful that her kids became involved with school extra curricular activities for the first time in their lives. This is absolutely a 'success' story that all TXM staff and volunteers can take pride and warmth in.
One of the SHP residents at the Haven was approved for her Section 8 voucher and will remain at the Haven and continue to receive case management.
Eric from the SHP attended the Texas Homeless Conference in early September in Dallas. As ususal, this conference provided up to date information from HUD as well as allowing service providers to build networks across the state.
On September 26th, MHMR representatives Bob Jones and Pricilla Montelongo made a presentation at the Housing Quarterly meeting. Housing clients received valuable information on mental health and medication issues.
A Haven resident was accepted as Community Liason by MHMR to answer questions and help educate new clients and the community about receiving MHMR services.
